The African Development Bank spends approximately 40 million Euros a year on goods, works and services for its internal requirements, which excludes project related procurement and consultancy. Most of the Bank’s procurement is conducted by the Corporate Procurement Division. In addition, the Bank allows devolution of procurement roles to the Field Offices.
Depending on the Bank’s needs the Corporate Procurement Division issues bids/tenders under the open competition procurement methods. The Bank has other alternative procurement methods that include limited competition, direct procurement and Purchasing Card.
The Bank promotes socially and environmentally responsible procurement and encourages vendors’ commitment to fair wages and benefits, safety, and environmental programs.
The overarching objective of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group is to spur sustainable economic development and social progress in its regional member countries (RMCs), thus contributing to poverty reduction.
The Bank Group achieves this objective by:
mobilizing and allocating resources for investment in RMCs; and
providing policy advice and technical assistance to support development efforts.
